I honestly did not taste this when it was first opened fresh five weeks ago. That being said, I must also say, five weeks In, while it has lost some of its pizzaz, including much of its punch-line flavour, it still works as a wine to be consumed for no special occasion. It would serve its purpose as a beach party wine or something consumed when tasting the beverage is no longer necessary, as an equivalent to a party keg or for a group needing something cheap to make do. I have had far worse wines which I had refused to continue consuming. With this wine, I gulped a glass down fast and went straight for another. Of course, this is easily done when the wine tastes closer to flavoured water and still has good mouthwatering acidity. I even poured a glass for two friends who both finished the glass. A good sign by any standards.

A very special wine today, known as left over wedding box o wine! Some family members had a wedding a few weeks back and there was some left over boxes of wine. They can't drink it all and the box says it "stays fresh for 6 weeks!" so I thought I would test that theory in week number 5 of that lasting freshness.
BASICS:
This is a 3L (equivalent to 4 bottles) box of Moonlight Harvest Pinot Grigio wine from Copper Mountain, cellared in Kelowna and containing both domestic and imported grapes. It has a packaging date of February of 2013 and is a 12% alcohol content and sits at its 5th week in from being opened. Looked it up, this can be purchased at $30.99 from the local BCL
FROM THE BOX (LITERALLY):
"Harvested under the light of the moon, this unique wine delivers the unexpected - a cool fresh taste that captures the mystery of the night itself. Its spirited individuality exudes citrus, green apple, melon and hint of floral notes."
REVIEWER'S RECORD:
A 3.3/5 from the BC liquor patrons. Over at Not To Be Trusted With Knives, this wine is called out as " it tastes like nothing. Seriously." Yet over at Mom Paradigm, "It's cheap. It's in a box, and the box is the equivalent of 4 bottles. You don't have to deal with 4 glass bottles when all is said and done so it's perfect...Seriously though, this wine is decent for the price"
The most informative bit came from GD wine, where G claims "nothing really much to it...kind of smells like barns, but it tastes like a really mild, if acidic, plain white wine. I can't even say if this actually tastes like a Pinot Grigio or not. It's really cheap, so I'd say this isn't a bad deal." D says " its not bad. It's kind of lifeless...It's pleasant enough flavour... a simple straightforward wine -- a workhorse of a wine."
THE AMATEUR:
The cheapness of this box of wine is its selling edge for certain, not that its a bad wine. It just isn't anything too special to define it from others in taste. Though, perhaps 5 weeks ago there was something there. Its hard to say. I did not know this box in its first days.
APPEARANCE:
I would go with a light straw but brighter more than pale...if that makes sense. Totally clear looking and the legs on the side are very watered down and undefined.
NOSE:
For a nose, there is a mild pear quality that comes through, and still a bit of crisp sour apples, maybe honeydew melon and slight peachy aspects.
PALATE:
Very light, mild, soft and mouth wateringly acidic. The wine seems to have died a little in taste over the week, sporting an almost watered down wine flavour. I notice absolutely no boldness and it all feels a little flat and flabby. It is still very gulpable due to the retained acids, allowing it to have the air of "refreshing" five weeks later. I question how acidic it started out as. If the acids are still kicking noticeably, how strong were they 5 weeks ago? I do still taste the melon and a slight pear aspect but remind me of these fruits a couple days over-ripe when they are soft and starting to gather a more mouldy tinge. The after taste is quick to disappear, almost like you never had a mouthful of wine only moments before. Though I cannot taste any alcohol, I do notice a good buzz going with only a glass.
WINE FOOD PAIRING:
5 weeks in, this would definitely be a wine better on its own or with some very light food. Its flat, almost one dimensional character, and lack of serious flavour would be struck down and stampeded into the ground by any dish of flavour.
