Personally I found the price a little steep for the alcohol level, youth and simplicity in character. Perhaps other vintage might fare better with their higher alcohol content. They may then contain bigger and more layered flavours. If you are looking to get drunk, the alcohol content is far too low to do that while sharing the bottle. Either don't pick this one to get drunk on, or don't share. If you like apple juice, this might be the bottle for you! With the soft light body and flavour I would suggest making this more of a summer drink in the sun to have on its own or paired with lighter flavoured foods sporting similar lemon or lime characteristics.

BACKGROUND:
This was pointed out to me by my sister when I mentioned a hankering for something along the course of a refreshingly zesty white wine with European heritage.
OVERVIEW:
This 2011, 9.5% alcohol by volume, Riesling is from Germany's Rheinhessen region. It is a light to medium body and has slightly higher acidity, a prominent apple flavour with a citrus finish. It comes to you at the price of 12.99 from your local BC liquor store, found in the German imports aisle.
WHAT THE BOTTLE BRAGS:
there isn't much of a foreshadowed description for this Riesling. All the bottle gives away is that it is a "refreshingly fruity Riesling." Trying to find any information about it from the producer turned up nothing.
WHAT THE REVIEWER WRITES:
Very little. So far, my search to turn up anything on this particular year of Riesling has yielded nothing but other years (vintages). The thing with other vintages of this Riesling is that they all contain a significantly higher alcohol level and are all contained in a much snazzier bottle. For this reason I can trust nothing. What i can say is that German Rieslings tend to be off dry, fruity and sweet.
THE AMATEUR'S ARGUMENT:
This wine reminded me of apple juice. It brings me back to my youth of apple drinking, only now that apple juice contains a wedge of lime and a half shot of alcohol (I say half shot because the alcohol content isn't very high on this one). I'm not saying apple juice is a bad thing. I happen to like apple juice. I happen to love placing a wedge of lime in my apple juice and i think adding a shot of alcohol makes it a very refreshing alcoholic beverage to be enjoyed in the heat. All i'm saying is that this wine is reminiscent of apple juice, a wedge of lime and a half shot of alcohol.
APPLEARANCE:
The look of clear and crisp, but rather pale, apple juice with little bubbles on the bottom of the glass. The legs move fairly fast to return to the bulk of the liquid and they seem fairly thin and clear. From this and the alcohol content I would hazard it a lighter body and more acidic nature.
NOSE:
Sweet, sweet acidic apple juice. Then there is the lime coming through with maybe a slight peachiness. The alcohol did not come out too strongly in the nose but there was something else there i couldn't quite pinpoint, maybe wood-like or mineral-like.
PALATE:
The apples comes across right away but not thickly. its definitely a watered down apple juice. The body of the wine is incredibly light and the flavors are almost delicately refreshing. There is a zesty citrus mix. i'm taking it to be lime but it could be lemon. It kicks in on the initial taste, almost disappears for a bit and resurfaces on the finish. The finish is quick to disappear but you do have that lingering aftertaste that you commonly get with apple juice. That acidic aftertaste. The alcohol is so faint and the body and flavors so lightly refreshing that you could down this glass in a thirsty couple gulps.
WINE FOOD PAIRING:
I had this on its own and its light refreshing characteristics might not make it a great pair for any food too heavy in flavour. I might have it with light flavoured fish that is simply dressed with something like lemon or lime, pepper, salt, dill. It might go all right with lighter flavoured spicy dishes. A Riesling can be sweeter and therefore pairs well with spicy dishes, but this Riesling is off dry and lighter in body and flavour so it might not be so great with the heavier spices and any fats like coconut milk or butter.
